Swapping out an LCD panel on the frame is a death wish for the inexperienced and a living hell even for a technician. Whatever you do, make sure you buy a full assembly and not just the LCD panel. Replacement displays for those machines are hard to find and it'll cost over $400 if you do. Lucky for you, it's not a 2013 through 2014 model. If you don't mind a little a little risk and lots cussing, you should be able to do it for around $300 or so by buying a complete assembly from AliExpress and sometimes eBay. An Apple Store will give you a 90 day warranty on the repair and sometimes they'll just hand you a new one if they have enough units in stock. You might save a hundred or so dollars by having an independent or even an authorized repair shop do it, but it's not worth the savings. You cannot "repair" it per se, but you can definitely replace the screen for around $500. Ultimately they're just signalling the pleasure of "new"Īnd these attitudes naturally emerge.
